Meetup.com A Social Network Actually Focused on Being Social

I didn’t think I would actually make a second post this soon but I was looking for an internship on internmatch.com and the site recommended to visit a website called Meetup.com to find and meet up with more professionals. My initial reaction was to find a site similar to Linkedin where many professionals create a profile and place their available times when and where they would like to meet up. However, this was not the case. This site can be used for any and everything. What I love about this site is that it encourages people to come out of their batcaves behind their computer screen and actually meet people in REAL LIFE. If you want to meet up with a group of poets and plan a poetry jam, just simply create a post about where and when you want to meet up and people will have the luxury to find your event. I have seen people create workout groups, book reading clubs, and dating groups.

Now I have only been on the website a couple of times and I don’t know all the ins and outs of the website. However, the opportunity this site provides are endless. A couple of stats from the About section on Meetup.com states that the website receives:

• 9 million monthly visitors
• 9.5 million members
• 280,000 Monthly meetups
• 45,000 Cities listed

Meetup.com’s mission is to empower small groups to make a big difference. I definitely endorse meetup.com’s mission and will be using this website in the near future. Empower yourself and embrace stepping outside of your comfort zone to new opportunities.
