Traditional Schooling Trumps Online Counterpart

I stand firmly on the fact that the traditional method of schooling is better than online schooling. Traditional schooling allows one to make personal connections and form relationships outside of the classroom that online schooling cannot provide. I have enjoyed the opportunity to become a part of several organizations on campus that has allowed me to engage in several networking opportunities that have led to internships and future job opportunities. As a business major, I have participated in resume workshops, career fairs, mentorship programs, and employment opportunities. These engagements have helped me improve my interview skills and enabled me to learn the value of building relationships.

Not only does traditional schooling provide networking opportunities outside of the classroom, but it provides a better practical experience in the classroom. I’ll never forget my freshman year public speaking class. Our first assignment was a 3-5 minute PowerPoint presentation on my family. Even though the topic was simple, I could not have been more afraid to present in front of a crowd. My heart raced as I was called to present and all I can recall from my presentation is stuttering over my words numerous times. However, once the moment was over, the applause from my peers gave me the confidence and helped me get over my fear of public speaker. As I continued to practice and complete more presentations, I noticed a dramatic improvement in my public speaking skills. This experience could have not been duplicated in an online class.

Although our generation is turning into a more technologically savvy culture, we cannot ignore the value of interpersonal interactions. These interactions allow us to develop the people skills necessary to work with others. Therefore, traditional schooling provides a more practical education value and a more gratifying experience than online schooling.
